Will Sleath and Tim Carey celebrate four decades of collaboration in a programme focusing on music of the EU.
The selection features two Baroque German works for flute and obbligato (fully written-out) keyboard part: Quantz’s D major sonata and JS Bach’s b minor sonata, the latter on alto flute, in an earlier g minor version of the work. The concert will also include two 20th-century German sonatas, by Hindemith and Henze – one pre-WWII, the other post-war.
France is represented by two contest pieces for the Paris Conservatory by Büsser and Hüe – works written to show off the flute’s capabilities – plus Debussy’s Syrinx for solo flute.
The selection is completed by two short (non-EU) compositions for bass flute, by the Australian Elena Kats-Chernin and Master of the King’s Music Errollyn Wallen.
