Lecturer, James Vaux answers the question, "Just why did Scandinavian Modern Design become to popular in the mid-20th century?"
James Vaux, an outstanding researcher and lecturer specialising in Nordic arts, culture, design and history, has been invited by The Arts Society Liskeard to deliver an hour’s talk in which he explores why Scandinavian Modern Design became so popular in the mid-20th century and how it turned from a revolutionary movement into just another style. He asks the question as to whether there was a dark side to it because lurking in the shadows was a Nordic project to change consumer taste and shape the model citizen using scientific experimentation and social engineering.
Refreshments are available from 7pm. The talk starts at 7.30pm and ends at 8.45pm allowing time for audience questions.
This event is run by The Arts Society Liskeard in association with Liskeard Unlocked 2026
